Hyundai Elantra Flex Pipe Guide: 2011-2016 Elantra 1.8L, 2013 Coupe and 2014-2016 Elantra GT 2.0L

Reviewed 2026-10-03. Checked against the sources listed below. This is general information, not a substitute for a mechanic's inspection.

Quick answer

The AFECO 52560 front flex pipe fits three specific Elantra combinations: the 2011-2016 Elantra 1.8L, the 2013 Elantra Coupe 1.8L and the 2014-2016 Elantra GT 2.0L, on cars with Federal emissions. California-emissions (SULEV) Elantras use a different pipe. A worn flex pipe usually shows up as a rumble on acceleration, a rattle or buzz near the front, and sometimes a check engine light.

Match both the body and the engine. Only the combinations in this table are listed. Check Displacement (L) and the model name in the free NHTSA VIN decoder before you order.

Federal or California emissions? Federal (non-SULEV) Elantras use front pipe 28610-3X300, which the AFECO 52560 replaces. California-emissions and other SULEV cars use 28610-3X400, a different pipe. Look for the emissions label under the hood: it says whether the car meets Federal or California standards.

Is there a recall?

We checked NHTSA's recall database for the 2011-2016 Elantra and 2014-2016 Elantra GT. None of the safety recalls listed involve the exhaust system. NHTSA's system returned no complaint data for the 2013 Elantra Coupe, so check your own VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Before you buy

  1. Confirm the leak is at the flex pipe and not a gasket at either end. Soot at the flange points to the gasket.
  2. Check the engine mounts. A worn mount lets the engine move too far and wears flex pipes out early.
  3. Match the body style, engine and emissions version to the notes above.

Fitting notes

The AFECO 52560 is direct-fit and includes hardware. Use new gaskets at both flanges, do not twist the braided section while fitting it, and tighten the flange nuts evenly.
